In 1996, two engineers pooled their combined telecommunications and programming experience of 30+ years and founded 3D Cellular Inc. — a company dedicated to designing, developing and deploying better wireless automation tools to address and solve the shortcomings found in existing switch software.
Two years later, 3D Cellular released and sold their first tools, the Digit Translation Tool, the Roam Translation Tool and the Antenna Face Tool for Lucent Wireless Systems.
The Mass Update Tool for Lucent Wireless Systems was released to provide wireless engineers with access to the complete set of Lucent databases and gave them the ability to make large scale changes. The tool soon became the "Tool of Choice" for RF performance engineers using 3D Cellular programs.
The LERG View Tool — compatible with all wireless environments — was released to provide all wireless engineers with easy viewing and updating of the LERG databases in order to cope with frequent Telcordia LERG Routing Guide releases. The LERG View was first built into Digit Translation Tool, but requests from customers for a stand-alone version prompted further development and release as a separate tool.
3D Cellular launched a series of advertisements in RCR Wireless Magazine illustrating variations of the new company marketing slogan "Satisfying the need for speed". The ad campaign highlighted the benefits of 3D Cellular's tools for wireless providers and their customers.
3D Cellular exhibited at the CTIA Wireless trade show in New Orleans, officially taking the "Satisfying the need for speed" campaign on the road. CTIA WIRELESS 2003 brought together all industries related to wireless communications for three intense days. CTIA WIRELESS 2003 encouraged the exchange of ideas, partnerships and collaboration. For 3D Cellular, this show marked the beginning of discussions with Nortel and prompted an increase in tool development for DMS-MTX systems.
The development of 3D tools for the Nortel DMS-MTX environment resulted in the first 3D Cellular tool — the Nortel Digit Translation Tool — to be brought to market for a major wireless carrier in the USA. The tool was developed in cooperation with the wireless service provider, then later sold to a second US cellular provider, pushing the development of new features even further.
3D Cellular began deployment of the Mass Update Tool for the leading American wireless carrier's RF performance engineers.
The second tool for the Nortel environment — the Nortel Roam Translation Tool — was released. At the same time, major additions and features were made to the 3D Cellular Mass Update Tool for Lucent Wireless Systems. The Mass Update Tool was re-deployed at the request of the leading US cellular service provider in order to optimize their systems and handle major projects requiring mass changes to translation databases.
The leading US wireless carrier requested 3D Cellular to develop the 'Cell Clone Wizard' feature.
3D Cellular deployed the Digit Translation Tool, the Roam Translation Tool and the Mass Update Tool for a major US cellular carrier's Lucent switches. Additionally, they implemented the Digit Translation Tool and the Roam Translation Tool for their Nortel switches.
Later that summer, 3D Cellular developed new features in the Nortel Digit Translation Tool including audits and Oracle database compatibility.
A major regional division of the leading US wireless carrier requested that 3D Cellular develop Least Cost Routing features (LCR) in its Digit Translation Tool.
The same wireless carrier requested 3D Cellular to carry out development for the SANE project requirement concerning SSH secure switch access in the Mass Update Tool.
Upon request from the wireless carrier, 3D Cellular upgraded development of the Mass Update Tool SANE access security (SSH2). 3D Cellular continued development of the Mass Update Tool for RF system performance engineers.
Another major American wireless carrier commissioned the Administrator version of 3D Cellular's Roam Translation Tool for their Lucent and Nortel switches.
3D Cellular began development of the Administrator version of the Roam Translation Tool.
3D Cellular released software upgrades for Lucent and Nortel switches in the Digit Translation Tool, including the new Compare and Query features.
3D Cellular released the Administrator version of the Roam Translation Tool, replacing the existing CARMS.
3D Cellular further developed the Local Exchange Routing Guide (LERG) update/audit features in the Digit Translation Tool using the LERG 7 Sha database.
3D Cellular released a software update for the Digit Translation Tool for Nortel and Alcatel-Lucent switches, including greatly improved Local Exchange Routing Guide (LERG) and Least Cost Routing (LCR) features.
The leading US wireless carrier requested the EVDO Tool to query, display and change EVDO containers.
3D Cellular released a new version of the Mass Update Tool including EVDO capabilities. Further feature development in the Mass Update Tool included Cell Inventory.
3D Cellular released a new commercial version of the Administrator version of the Roam Translation Tool for Nortel and Alcatel-Lucent switches.
3D Cellular released the commercial version of the Roam Translation Tool - Administrator 2.0 to a major American wireless carrier.
3D Cellular deployed customized servers in two major regions for the leading US wireless carrier for the Digit Translation Tool and the Roam Translation Tool.
3D Cellular deployed the Mass Update Tool in two major regions for the leading American wireless carrier's RF system performance engineers.
3D Cellular achieved a major milestone with over 250 users of the Mass Update Tool, including Translation and Operations engineers.
3D Cellular began development of the Digit Translation Tool for European wireless carriers. The software was developed for use with Nokia and Ericsson switches.
